Bharat Bhushan Goswami Shri Bharat Bhushan Goswami was
born into an artistic family in Mathura. Realising his keen interest
in music, his grandfather, Shri Amal Chandra Goswami, began to train
him in vocal music. He received his initial training in Sarangi from
Swami Kanhaialal. Later he proceeded to Benares for advanced training
in Sarangi under the guidance of Pandit Hanuman Prasad Mishra. The specialities
in his performance are the perfection of Raga with speed and clarity.
He has performed with leading exponents from India. Presently he is
working on the staff of All India Radio Delhi. On these recordings he
is accompanied by Ashis Sengupta on tabla.

About the Sarangi The sarangi is the most important string
instrument in Gandharva Veda. The sarangi has three to four melody strings
and thirteen to thirty-six resonating strings, and is played with a
bow. The playing technique is very unusual because it is not touched
with the fingertips the side and underside of the string is touched
by the part of finger where fingernail begins to grow. Its full and
very pleasing sound is highly esteemed when accompanying vocals. The
echo effect from the resonating strings is stronger than that of the
sitar or sarod.
